Nanda Vigo

Light Project

ISBN: 9788836643318 (PB - E/ IT)

The multifaceted activity of Nanda Vigo (Milan, 1936) in the fields of art, architecture and design is analysed by curator Marco Meneguzzo as a single project of art and life, in the wake of European Modernity. A protagonist of the Milanese cultural scene of the 1960s, Vigo began producing his "Cronotopi" in 1963, in the spirit of ZERO, the transnational group of German, Dutch, French, Belgian, Swiss and Italian artists. Participating in the avant-garde movements and groups of the early sixties, the artist developed his own thoughts on the light, transparency and immateriality that were to constitute his work and also on the spaces inhabited by human beings: the "Cronotopi" are the artistic materialisation of this thinking. It is in their version of the sixties, as well as in the environments that derive from them, and in the mirroring or luminous works made down to the present day that lies the quintessence of his way of understanding art: an existential situation that allows one to live transcendent experiences, beyond the materiality of the everyday in order to be able to perceive physically - as far as possible - a higher reality, a universal harmony through contemplation, dematerialisation and communion with the Other.
