This Japanese-English bilingual edition introduces more than 400 works selected by a 13-judge panel from the Japan Typography Association. With entries accepted from all over the world, the judges, chosen from association members, together with the previous year's Grand Prix winner, conducted a rigorous evaluation process to select one Grand Prix winner from all the entries, along with a "Best Work Award" in each category. A "Jury Award" will be awarded to works or designers highly rated by the judges from their individual perspectives. Introduction of JTA:
Taking over the Japan Lettering Association, founded in 1964, the Japan Typography Association (JTA) was established in 1971 to encourage the development of expressive techniques based on textual communication. JTA's diverse activities include programs and exhibitions to promote typography and studies on intellectual property rights. Japan Typography Annual is issued yearly by the JTA.First launched in 1969 as the Japan Lettering Almanac and later renamed JTA in 1976. Japan Typography Annual 2023 is its 44th issue.
