Didier Vermeiren

Double exposition

ISBN: 9789462303249 (HB - EN)

A monographic book published on the occasion of Didier Vermeiren's eponymous solo exhibition at WIELS (autumn 2022). Double exposition takes its name from a photograph by Vermeiren that refers to its own double exposure (exposition in French, which also translates as exhibition). The title thus evokes the recurrent strategies of repetition, reversal, doubling and inversion that Vermeiren explores in his work. Conceived by the artist and containing a rich array of his striking photographs, the book also features an in-depth analysis of Vermeiren's most recent sculptures written by long-term commentator on his practice, Michel Gauthier; an essay on the central role of photography in his studio practice by Susana Gallego-Cuesta; and a look at the shifts and continuities in his oeuvre over the past four decades by the exhibition's curator Zoë Gray. Didier Vermeiren (b.1951, Brussels) lives and works in Brussels. Institutional solo exhibitions include FRAC Bretagne (2017); Skulpturenpark Walfrieden, Wuppertal (2012-13); La Maison Rouge, Paris; and Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle (both 2012); Musée Bourdelle, Paris (2005-6); Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (2003); La Criée, Rennes (1998); Kusthalle Zu¨rich; Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris (both 1995); Museum Haus Lange, Museum Haus Esters, Krefeld (1993); Domaine de Kerguéhennec, Bignan (1991); Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht (1989); Le Consortium, Dijon (1988); Palais des Beaux- Arts, Bruxelles & Villa Arson, Nice (1987).
